SoapBox notifications keep you connected to your church community and help you maintain spiritual disciplines. Customize exactly what you receive and when.

Notification Channels

Push Notifications

Appear on your device’s lock screen and notification center. Best for:
  • Urgent alerts
  • Time-sensitive updates
  • Message notifications
  • Event reminders

Email Notifications

Sent to your registered email address. Best for:
  • Weekly digests
  • Giving receipts
  • Account security
  • Long-form updates

In-App Notifications

Appear in the notification bell within SoapBox. Best for:
  • Social interactions
  • Prayer updates
  • Activity summaries
  • Non-urgent updates

SMS Notifications

Text messages to your phone. Best for:
  • Critical church alerts
  • Emergency notifications
  • Password resets

Message Notifications

Warnings when you might break a streak.

Event Notifications

  • Event reminders - Before events you’ve RSVP’d to
  • New events - When your church posts new events
  • Event changes - Updates to events you’re attending
  • Volunteer schedules - Your upcoming serving times

Giving Notifications

  • Gift confirmations - Receipt after each donation
  • Recurring reminders - Before scheduled gifts process
  • Failed payments - If a payment doesn’t go through
  • Annual statements - Year-end tax documents ready

Managing Notifications

Global Settings

Open Settings

Go to Settings > Notifications.

Choose Category

Select a notification category to customize.

Toggle Options

Turn individual notifications on or off.

Set Channel

Choose push, email, in-app, or all.

Per-Conversation Settings

Mute specific conversations:
  1. Open the conversation
  2. Tap the name/title at top
  3. Select notification preference:
    • All notifications
    • Mentions only
    • Muted

Per-Group Settings

Customize group notifications:
  1. Open the group
  2. Go to group settings
  3. Set notification preferences
  4. Choose mute duration if needed

Quiet Hours

Setting Up Quiet Hours

Silence notifications during specific times:
  1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Quiet Hours
  2. Toggle Enable Quiet Hours
  3. Set start time (e.g., 10:00 PM)
  4. Set end time (e.g., 7:00 AM)
  5. Choose days (weekdays, weekends, or custom)

Override Settings

Some notifications can bypass quiet hours:
  • Emergency church alerts
  • Direct messages from pastors (if enabled)
  • Critical account security

Do Not Disturb

Temporarily silence everything:
  1. Tap Do Not Disturb in settings
  2. Choose duration or turn on indefinitely
  3. Only critical alerts will come through

Email Preferences

Email Frequency

Choose how often you receive email digests:

Unsubscribe

To unsubscribe from emails:
  1. Click “Unsubscribe” at bottom of any email
  2. Or manage in Settings > Notifications > Email

Notification Sound & Display

Sound Settings

Customize notification sounds:
  • Use default SoapBox sounds
  • Use system sounds
  • Set per-category sounds
  • Silent (vibrate only)

Badge Settings

Control app icon badges:
  • Show unread count
  • Show notification dot only
  • No badges

Lock Screen

Choose lock screen display:
  • Show full content
  • Show sender only
  • Hide notifications completely

Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Notifications?

Ensure SoapBox has notification permissions in your phone’s settings.
Verify the notification type is enabled in SoapBox settings.
Make sure quiet hours or DND aren’t blocking notifications.
Some battery saver modes block background notifications.
As a last resort, reinstalling can fix notification issues.

Too Many Notifications?

  1. Review your notification settings
  2. Mute less important categories
  3. Switch to daily/weekly digests
  4. Use quiet hours
  5. Mute specific busy conversations

Best Practices

Turn on notifications for things that require timely action. Turn off the rest.
Protect your sleep and family time with scheduled quiet hours.
Even with notifications off, check the app regularly to stay connected.
Be there for your community by staying notified of prayer needs.
Ensure you’re notified of any payment issues with recurring gifts.
